Tux & Edo

I was approached by Angie with a sweet idea for a children’s book about a boy named Matty, who starts wondering why his two black-and-white cats, Tux and Edo, are called “tuxedo cats” instead of being named after other black-and-white things in his life. I loved the idea right away—it felt playful, curious, and perfect for a kids’ story.

Angie wanted the illustrations to feel simple and approachable, almost like a child had drawn them, which made the project even more fun. From there, I suggested creating the entire book in black and white so kids could not only read it but also color it in and make it their own. The result was Tux and Edo, a lighthearted story that pairs imaginative illustrations with easy-to-follow, sight word-friendly text—making it a fun and engaging read for early learners and anyone young at heart. This project was such a joy to work on and holds a special place in my heart as the first children’s book I’ve illustrated.
